Fire Safety

Fire safety during the construction phase has become a critical focus in recent years. The latest version of the Joint Code of Practice (JCoP 10.1) places significant emphasis on safeguarding both personnel and the structures under construction. This document is closely aligned with the Health & Safety Executive’s HSG 168 publication, which provides further guidance on fire safety in construction.

Fire Prevention

Every year, there are numerous serious fires on construction sites, often with devastating outcomes. These incidents can result in loss of life or injury, the destruction of historic buildings, and damage to plant and equipment. The main goal of this document is to prevent fires by designing out risk, taking simple precautions, and adopting safe working practices. The Joint Code of Practice (JCoP) is widely regarded as best practice and is frequently referenced in insurance contracts.

Protecting Lives

The primary concern of fire safety compliance is protecting the lives of those on site, as well as the families who depend on them. Construction sites inherently pose additional fire hazards due to the presence and storage of combustible materials, hot works, and use of flammable substances. Adhering to fire safety regulations is crucial to reduce these risks, contain fires, and ensure the safety of workers using site welfare facilities.
